Schumer has already started cozying up to the most important election lobby.
Israel.
Activate AIPAC
I’ll be glad to see the back of Corporate DINO Schumer. Though after being booted, he’ll probably regularly show up on Fox News as a token Democrat to criticize anything the government does that helps the people more than the billionaires and corporations.
Trump already told U.S citizens that they won’t be voting anymore after his election.
Primary for what position? What are they running for?
Aren’t they both already representatives?
People have been pushing her to primary Chuck Schumer for his Senate seat which goes up for election in 2028
What does that mean and why is that different from her current role?
She is currently in the house as a rep for her district. There are 435 members.
She’s campaigning for the senate to represent the state. There are 100 members, two from each state.
Then she can have the voice of 10 million people count for 1 vote. And a Senator from Montana can have the voice of ~5% of that count for the same 1 vote.
Sorry for sounding down about it, we need better senators, but we need to overhaul the way the Senate works
This is why we have both the house of reps and the senate. The house of reps means that states with a high population get adequate representation, and the senate means that states with lower populations can still have a say instead of having no chance of outvoting the high pop states
Yeah I think thr house and senate are good as they are for that reason. It’s the electoral college and gerrymandering districts that are the biggest election problems.
There are two seperate houses in congress, the house of reps, and the senate. Each state gets a number of reps proportional to its population. But they each get two senators no matter the size of the population. AOC is a rep in the house. Schumer is one of two senators for NY.
A primary election is an election within a party (in this case the democrats, of which they are both members). When he has to run for office again, she (or anyone) can challenge him as the Democratic candidate. If she were to win, then the only other way he could run would be under amother party (or without a party, called an independant).
Good succinct explanation.
Further reading on this type of legislature.
Wouldn’t that leave her old seat empty, for Trump supporter to take?
I dont see why this would be a good change.
She is in a very blue district that loves her, if she vacates her seat it will almost certainly be filled with another blue candidate, and likely one that she personally endorses.
Hypothetical race.
Any poll three years out is worthless bullshit.
I remember a time when the United States actually took a break from reporting on elections instead of manufacturing hype for four solid years between major elections.
The current political media landscape is exhausting, and I’m so sorry to everyone who is young enough to think that constant election projections are “normal.”
yeah they do that so it burns people out and they check out
I mean the polling shows for the 2036 race has me for the next car. /s
Plenty of time for her “own side” to stab her in the back.
For that matter, any action three years out is worthless bullshit.
Don’t think I can support anyone running against AOC. She’s the best candidate by a country mile.
It’s not even that she’s so spectacular, it’s just the other options are horrendously shit.
Gearing up for the tsunamis of useful idiots though telling me why we need a moderate candidate just like hillary and kamala.
why we need a moderate candidate just like hillary and kamala.
Screw the “don’t rock the boat” candidates… unless they’re the only option compared to the “let’s destroy America!” candidate on the other side.
Not rocking the boat is better than setting the country on fire for no goddamn reason (if the system were burning down with a reasonable expectation we could make it better that’d be arguably different). I’m sure there are plenty that feel smugly superior for having “protested” by not voting, and I trust you don’t mind the whole “country’s on fire” thing going on (insert “this is fine” meme).
It’s a two-pronged strategy.
The lesser-evil candidates piggyback on the greater-evil ones by saying “Hey, at least we’re not as bad as that guy!”
It’s super effective against useful idiots.
Not American but from my point of view it looks like you need her more than anything. Her, and preferably many more just like her. Normal intelligent people from all walks of life. Decent human beings.
This is also why I’ve never had an issue with Elizabeth Warren, not that I want to be shilling for her here. I would’ve loved to see her get a real chance at the presidency though. While she might be relatively wealthy now she also came from a comparatively normal background, and she seems to remember living it, too (I obviously don’t have her voting records in front of my face, but I’ve read almost everything she’s ever written).
Got called a misogynist at Reddit back then for daring to suggest she might be a good candidate, because apparently that’s what you are if you think she might have a better temperament than trump…
I digress, though. AOC is awesome.
No need for a moderate candidate. If you have another election, people would happily vote for a mentally handicapped squirrel over whatever republican is running.
Good. I’ll never forgive that simpering, cowardly, weak, spineless bitch for stabbing Al Franken in the back. He should quit while has a chance to do it without looking too bad, but if he won’t, she should run him out in embarrassing and humiliating fashion.
AOC got into Congress by beating the #4 Democratic Congressional leader in the primary, now she’s poised to beat the top Senate Democrat in the primary. She’s an actual giant killer. All other Democrats should take note - it’s not her politics that people are responding to, it’s her strength. We need people who aren’t afraid to stand up to the Nazis, and she is fearless.
It is her politics and her strength, and Also her transparency and her target demographic. She represents the people - not the big corporations, even the corporations that favor Democrats. She’s here for the 99%, and to help her people, she is willing to take from the top 1% that never should have the money they possess.
Also her politics though. They’re pretty good.
Yeah, I shouldn’t have made it sound like her brand of politics isnt important. I also heavily agree with her politics.
There are others who have the same ideals, but they arent considered the leaders of the young progressives, and Bernie’s heir apparent. The reason she is out front is because she has never been afraid to get in people’s faces when they come after her. They demonized Hillary for 30 years, and in the end it was what blocked her path to the White House. AOC isn’t going to let them do the same thing to her.
Her Politics of the People make us trust her, but its her relentless strength that makes us want her to lead us. That will only increase as she spends time in the Senate, and we see her grow. It would be great to see her in the presidency in her 30s, but she’ll do a better job in her more-experienced 40s.
If America lasts that long.
I just want her to run for president. But after fielding 2 uninspiring establishment centre-right candidates with no grassroots base, that offer nothing exciting, the Democrats and even many voters think that women in general are unelectable.
Yeah. Democrats chose to run some of the worst candidates in history.
It’s sad that now a female candidate guarantees a trump victory. Nominating conservative female candidates did more harm than good.
I just don’t think very highly of Americans in general. They are too sexist, too racist, and too elitist.
They want a rich old white man. Only one time ever did they attempt something else, and that lead directly to a third of the country becoming extremists.
I love AOC. Hope she will become president one day. But please just run with someone that your sexist, racist, elitist neighbors can actually vote for.
Let AOC become Senate majority leader first. That would be really cool, impactful, and help people get used to her.
I’d LOVE to see AOC as president, but I think this post is sopt on perfect. I think she could do some amazing good as Senate Minority, and eventually Majority Leader, and become president a bit later in life.
Gerald Ford was once addressing a classroom, and one of the kids asked him if a woman would ever be President, and he said that a woman would definitely be president someday, but the first woman president wouldnt be directly elected. He thought the first woman president would be a vice president, who gets promoted when the president dies. After that, a woman wouldn’t have a problem getting elected. I thought that was a pretty insightful read on the weird bigotry of Americans.
Nah I vehemently disagree with this. The racist sexist bigots aren’t going to vote democrat no matter what. Kamala spent a lot of time trying to court the “”“moderate”" republicans and it didn’t work.
Obama won because he had a base and he got people excited. People still remember “Yes we can” and just the general hope and inspiration he brought.
And honestly to even suggest the radicalisation of the right was due to Obama is crazy.
The racist sexist bigots aren’t going to vote democrat no matter what.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that racism and especially sexism don’t exist within the Democratic voting base. They are much less of a problem than within the Republican voting base, but they are still significant enough to swing elections.
And honestly to even suggest the radicalisation of the right was due to Obama is crazy.
Not solely due to Obama, but his existence in the White House did get a lot of people to take off their masks.
This is in 3 years… not many Americans can remember that far
That’s why he needs to resign now, so she can navigate whatever mechanism NY has to replace him (special election or governnor appointment). He might as well quit now, he has no coherent plan to resist the Nazis for the next 3 years, just appeasement and capitulation. Get out of the way and let someone who wants to do the job have a crack at it.
Promote AOC to senate!
I was thinking more like President but you do you.
The ONLY thing I’m learning from these Polls is that we need to go FURTHER RIGHT and Bring Back HARRIS!
-The DNC!
Biden is already offering to come out of retirement to help!
Fuck off you old POS. I’m so ready for someone like AOC to be the front runner. This country needs it whether the majority of people realize it or not.
The only way to unite this country is to launch Manchin for president.
- DNC
President Liz Cheney (D) because it’s her time.
With vp Hillary
hes only going to be “independant” he already is going to lose his seat to a magat.
Uh oh establishment dems… that’s a huge margin.
Better pull strings to shoehorn the controlled opposition back in!
Quick! Gather the superdelegates! 🥴🦸♂️
What a dream come true it would be to have AOC primary him.
If she loses, it could be the end of her political career. So it’s definitely a risk. At the same time, if he loses it will be as well. He better resign if he thinks it will be even close.
If she loses, the country is cooked. We might be cooked anyway, but like, double cooked. Refried.
Toast.
No, she’d just stay in her Congressional seat.
Why would that be the end of her political career?
Because he’s a useful idiot who just parrots what other people tell him.
Because, in the game of thrones, you win or you die.
Seriously, though, I don’t necessarily agree. Though it’s not the norm, people DO come back after losing high profile races.
Just look at how establishment media can’t kick their Hillary addiction, or how Kari Lake somehow remains relevant in spite of never winning anything but Arizona GOP primaries, which are basically just bigotry state fairs.
If they can, AOC DEFINITELY can.
It could be… I just think in politics when you lose big races, you have a stink on you that’s hard to get off. People won’t believe she can win another big race, so they’ll take her less seriously.
It’s not guaranteed, it’s just a thing that happens in politics.
Try lowering your glasses even further Chuck!
He’d have to have his nose surgically elongated first 😄
Nah, he can just tell a few more lies.
Lol 😂
AOC as president
and Cory Booker as VP?Booker did stand around talking for a day. It wasn’t a filibuster, because no bill was up for debate. And he pledged undying loyalty to Israel during his day of remarks.
So while I admire his energy I’m not a fan of the support of genocide.
pledged undying loyalty to Israel
I missed that part.
Definitely should have watched the entire speech.
I take everything back then.
It’s amazing to me that she’s still only a congresswoman. I can’t think of anybody who has been in the national spotlight for that long without moving up to at least senator, if not a cabinet position.
Senators are congresswomen, no?
Technically yes, but we commonly refer to members of the House as congressmen/women and members of the Senate as senators. Being a senator gives you more power because there are only 100 of them compared to 435 House members, so it is a meaningful distinction to make.
Useful idiots keep shouting “she’s too young” while voting for dinosaurs.
Really puts into perspective how ‘smart’ the average voter is.
Citizens United was such a misstep, because most people can’t think for themselves and their votes can be bought by convincing them that voting for X will make them look good in front of their peers.
She speaks reality. People in control deal with very controlled messaging. They don’t like people they can’t control.
She first got elected in 2018. How many senators got there within three election cycles of their first office? Just because Obama went from Illinois State Senate to US Senate to President in a four year span doesn’t make such a climb normal.
It’s not just Obama. Reagan spent only 2 terms, 8 years as governor of California before becoming president. George W Bush spent only 5 years as governor of Texas before becoming president. JD Vance only spent 2 years as a senator before becoming VP.
For people who haven’t become president, Tammy Duckworth spent only 4 years as a congresswoman before being elected to the senate. John McCain was only a congressman for 4 years before becoming a senator.
Generally people who get national name recognition that quickly don’t hang out in congress that long. Once they hit the senate, sometimes their progress stalls. See Biden, Warren, Bernie, McCain, John Edwards, John Kerry, Bob Dole, etc. But, normally national name recognition = senate, at a minimum.
Nobody?
Cue the next learned essay about how what Democratic voters really want is centrists in 3, 2, 1…
The US has a centrist party? I thought it was right-wing or far right-wing, but to US voters, the former is “left”.
You thought correctly.
No matter how much the billionaire owned establishment media narrative tries to tell people otherwise, state and federal level politicians in the US are significantly further right wing than the electorate they’re supposed to accurately represent and have been for decades.
