Reminds me of the situation with toki pona. The OG minimalist vocabulary, it was the users who had to incorporate a Western pronoun system for when they needed to clarify things. Before that, everyone was referred to in a non-binary way.

I couldn’t list all the ones I know, only the ones I have come across. I remember once someone tried making the whole Bee Movie script their pronoun. Another time they were just dolphin sounds. I was like “guys, I have every intention to uphold your validity, but I need to throw a few rules into the equation”. Just basic courtesy stuff.

There are a lot of choices, but one I was talking to someone else about today was the time we were doing the pledge of allegiance, and I did it in a language that wasn’t English. I started doing it in an indigenous language, and after two lines the teacher was like “TINA, NO!!!”

I’m a woman (cisgender) and I can kind of relate. If I know someone as nice and understanding, I of course feel more of the fear in how things can go wrong, especially considering there are a lot of things about me where people jump to conclusions if they learn about. I wouldn’t call it an abnormal feeling. Ironically it has helped me to know parallels in the other person when they come up, not to use as a motive to go after them but to know it’s not one-sided and that it’s all mutual. If you ever need anything, I’m always here for you.
