The younger generation has a problem with externalizing their issues to others without feeling responsible for these issues themselves.

There is always some other party with influence and power who is either antagonizing them or should take care of them like a parent and when they don’t, everything is the fault of that “parent”.

For example, it’s the “DNCs fault” we’re in the state we’re in apparently even though a lot of people didn’t vote and encouraged others not to vote. The democrat party is not some nebulous entity or corporation that exists to cater to your whims like you’re some customer it must please to earn your vote. It’s made up of people. People like you who got together with other people to try to enact their political ideals and vision for the country.

If you don’t like that vision, you need to get with other people who share your vision, start from the ground up, win local elections and start changing the party bit by bit. But this is hard work and much more difficult than screaming that the octogenarian politicians are ruining your life when nobody your age is actually doing anything to replace them because you don’t want to become career politicians.

Stop behaving and whining like perpetual petulant children and actually do the hard work to make the change you want to see instead of waiting for someone else to do it for you.

Never put your trust in a centralized social service again. In the old days when forums were independently hosted you might get banned but you can just go and find another one or host your own.

Everyone has gotten too used to the convenience of these centralized managed social media services like Reddit, TikTok, Facebook, etc.

Lemmy is great because it’s offers some of the convenience Reddit does but isn’t centralized. So if you get permabanned on one instance you can just find another that fits your interests better. Or host your own and you’re not reliant on a corporation that is trying to milk you and your data for all that it’s worth for a little profit.

As to the rest of it, our current democracy needs many changes to protect it from becoming an autocracy/oligarchy. The ones ones who are committed to those changes are Democrats.

But seizing power as Trump is doing to dictatorially implement changes to prevent dictators would be highly hypocritical. And if the basis of such reforms were based on such a shakeable foundation it would just waiting for the next dictator to come in and do what they want. In that case, then yes, what you’d say is correct, every new elected official will just be a dictator pushing their new whims on the populace. This is why I don’t fault Democrats for trying to do things the proper way democratically through our voting process even if it seems slow or inefficient.

Sadly half of Americans have decided having a dictator isn’t a deal breaker or something to exercise their vote for so that’s left us here.

Money is only this powerful because people didn’t vote when it mattered to keep money out of politics.
