Just tried a search for Magisk and uBlock indeed does a great job at blocking all the scam websites.

I need to install Magisk.
Google:
1st result: their Github page
2: magisk-manager.fr.uptodownDOTcom/android
3: magiskmanagerDOTcom/
4: magisk-manager.fr.softonicDOTcom/androidKagi:
1st result: their Github page
2: magiskDOTme/ (icon showing it may be scam)
3: magiskmanagerDOTcom/ (scam icon)
4: themagiskDOTcom/ (scam icon)No way I’m clicking on anything but the Github page.
Kagi is somewhat better than Google, but you have to pay attention to the small warning icon.
I would say bot search engines do a bad job and shouldn’t show those results (or have an option “show me unsafe websites”)edit: uptodown and softonic might not be as bad. Still wouldn’t download from them.
For some reason (maybe it being called the “starter plan”) I figured it was a one time thing. Good to know, thanks.
Is that possible on the same account?
el cheapo interneto when you’re not rich:
4G router at home, data capped (350 GB for 10€) so I had to be creative.
For non urgent downloads I use an Oracle free tier server: 200 GB. I retrieve the files when I have access to a fiber connection. Also acts as a small seedbox. Completely free but can be reclaimed by Oracle at any moment.
150 GB on Filen for sharing stuff (one time purchase)
A small 40 GB VPS for syncing smaller files like my notes, passwords, some files on Nextcloud … also for Wallabag and a few other services.

The main issue with rare earths is extracting them. It’s very polluting and labor intensive.
China sells them so cheap it doesn’t make economic sense for most countries to extract them, but there are locations with high concentrations all over the world.
Good to know, thanks!
Yes older gen is fine, but I don’t see that much of a difference on the 4TB drives, they tend to all start at 190-200€. Maybe because there aren’t any older gen at that capacity yet? I haven’t followed SSDs progress closely.
I won’t buy from Amazon either. I don’t have much experience with Aliexpress, and haven’t looked up their history out of laziness. Will do.
It’s hard, if not impossible, to buy ethical tech. I prefer to buy second hand, but that doesn’t really make a difference.
Thanks. Yes power consumption is important, so I’ll keep that in mind!
Is there a specific term I should look for, or simply “power management”?

I don’t know. more than 60% of Internet traffic comes from mobile devices, and it keeps increasing

only way I see smaller phones make a comeback is if we change our habits or if a new technology comes along

As long as it’s FOSS and doesn’t inherently promote their beliefs, I will use the software.
I agree it’s not great and I’d prefer if it weren’t made by imbeciles

Of those I’ve only used Azire, and it worked well. I’ve seen Airvpn recommended often though
Some Proton aren’t either.
What is becoming increasing difficult is Youtube. finding a patched client and the right VPN server is no easy task.
As VPN usage becomes more mainstream I believe “premium” offers will start to appear, offering servers with fewer people, regularly renewed IPs, things like that, for a higher price.
I sometimes have to switch servers to comment on Lemmy
