How do people solve problems then? How do clever writers exist? Or how do clever artists in general exist?

Like coming up with an idea for how the main character of a story survives against the main villain’s super nuke attack. Or coming up with ideas for what a certain painting represents.
Huh, it’s weird then how I can’t think without words and/or images.
