I read this article and another one that someone linked in the comments and it really didn’t say anything at all.

I’ll be up front and say that I have very serious problems with camps like this in general. However, the accusations seem serious and it would have been helpful if the article actually detailed them. Instead it said:

As of Tuesday, officials had not released details about why they believe the children may have been in danger, how old they were, why they were at the Bible study camp, or if anyone was arrested.

The article itself had hyperlinks to what seemed to be unrelated abusers. I’m just more confused.

What happened? Were children harmed? Will the abusers, if they exist, be held to justice?

Again, I have serious issues with programs like these in general. I might argue that abuse is indeed happening, but not in the way this article implies. unfortunately, the abuse that I believe is certainly happening is not kind of thing that would prevail in court in a country that doesn’t seem to have a legal problem with things like conversion therapy.

Had to look up several articles to better understand the shortage and it is still not entirely clear to me. Seems to be numerous factors all affecting Japan at the same time. I don’t envy them. increased prices in staple foods is really hard.

Honestly, they’re not.

I hate to say it, but the system needs to crash and burn for people to wake up. I need and want to avoid that at all costs, but some people… most people… don’t seem to be able to learn without it.

I think you are overestimating just how much constituents are invested in what their politicians actually do…

Many many many persons feel the side effects, the burn, of their elected politicians deviating from what they hoped. And yet each election cycle, these politicians continue to be voted in.

I mean, they get mad, but mad enough to watch C-Span and make calls…? 😅

I understand the issue. It’s clear. What I don’t understand is this article focusing on Ocasio-Cortez’s “by the light of day” comment.

Are people watching these proceedings live on C-Span with their hand on the phone ready to call their congressperson’s office? If Republicans pushed this through “during the light of day,” would it make any actual difference? Why can’t congresspersons challenge this in the middle of the night? Does Ocasio-Cortez think Republican constituents will be making those calls to change the minds of their politicians? 🤔

But honestly, when you’ve lived on the other side of things… as bad as it gets in the “West”… many people will still sacrifice everything to make their way there, where a better life might be found… even if many of those countries are actively trying to keep immigrants out… 🫤

They need help. They need hope.
