Default instances would go a long way, I know there’s a lot of hate for lemmy.world but defaulting to the biggest instance or a random one in the top 10 would help ease some of the early friction.

I’d rather join-lemmy (and join-fediverse) were smarter.

It’s what I’d do if someone asked me directly for a recommendation and should be relatively easy to do.

As we say with someone posting a link to db0 on r/piracy, if you just say to people “this is the instance for you” and it seems relevant then they make the jump. I’m tempted to go to the main subs for Canada, Australia, the UK, etc and just post a link to the relevant instance.

It’s something I’ve raised with the other Admins and we may see if our users would be up for swapping the default frontend to one of the others.

I know I favour this, but I may be biased.

My main tip for picking an instance is go for a region or topic specific instance so your local feed is manageable and relevant.

I’m booked in on Friday (yes it’s Valentine’s Day) and I was surprised by my local multiplex shunting it off to smaller screens (one I joke is the toilet as it has almost the same number of seats) and the only iSense screening is early. Instead Bridget Jones is grabbing all the Big screens. I suspect this mixed reaction has something to do with it.

Although I mutter about the Thunderbolts line-up, it does look like it could work well if the story goes the way I hope it does.

I’ll be seeing Cap 4 in the next week but I can’t say I am looking forward to it.

That was always the plan but the speed they’ve made them has surprised everyone.

Good call - they were surefire hits and a big production, so, if you have the team together you may as well keep rolling.

We were already in uncharted waters when they decided to finish a trilogy with a trilogy. In the examples you mention, they had a successful part 1 so the others were greenlit. Technically 28XL has also had a successful part 1, and a less successful part 2. The only surprise it has taken this long to come back for part 3, which is now 28XL 3a, 3b and 3c.

I presume the quality of the story, the big name talent involved, the low budget (28YL 1 was partly filmed on an iPhone) and the quick turnaround meant the studio was happy to write some cheques. The positive reaction to the first trailer can’t have hurt.

I’ve been sceptical about this, as it’s not the classic Thunderbolts line-up (and Baron Zemo is in the MCU) but it looks very promising.

There has definitely been an uptick in sign-ups - first around the Inauguration (despite being a UK instance) and then with Reddit’s pornmaggedon. In between it didn’t drop back down to the old rate in between. db0 have seen a.massive spike recently too.

Bit of a chicken and egg situation there.

I suppose we could spin up a UK instance or find someone who would but then you’d need numbers to make it work too. However, if people would be interested in using this then speak up and it’d be easier to asses the need. It could be something regional instances bolt on as an added service.
