Summary

27 religious organizations are suing the Trump administration over its decision to allow ICE arrests at places of worship, reversing longstanding policy.

The lawsuit argues that detaining immigrants in churches violates the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Faith leaders say the policy has led to decreased attendance at worship services and social programs.

They seek a permanent injunction blocking immigration enforcement at religious sites, unless agents have a judicial warrant or are operating under “exigent circumstances.”

The churches housing undocumented migrants and fighting to give them sanctuary aren’t the megachurches you’re alluding to. The church I belonged to while living in the US was housing an undocumented family, and the finances of the church were open to all members so I can assure you we weren’t getting any income for doing it.

This has nothing to do with money. Traditionally churches have been able to provide sanctuary to people from LEO. Trump has violated this.

Yeah, add division between whose who fight these reforms. That’s exactly what the people in America needs.

No, many of the people may be well meaning, but the church itself and the religion it represents are evil.

What the fuck does that have anything to do with being on the phone? I truly cannot figure out how the two things are related in any way… Sounds like you’re stereotyping irreligious people as low information, terminally online, losers.

The conversation is about “churches” in the context of an article about US politics. So I was referring to Christianity, not “all the faiths.” What a ridiculous straw man.

No Im placing you firmly in the “internet atheist” camp that typically knows nothing about religions other than whatever they were brought up in/around.

There are tons of Christian churches and denominations that aren’t evil. The bishop who called out Trump at the Inaugural ceremony is part of one- The Episcopal Church of America.

You’re just espousing religious bigotry and that isn’t ok.
