“We get to give Arnold a very specific, fun gift from the movie in a couple of weeks here,” Powell teased of his next interaction with the former California governor.

I remember some kid in school doing his verbal book report on The Running Man.

I was quite surprised when I actually read it some years later. The kid had just bullshitted it based on the movie. Talked about Sub Zero and everything.

      From the article:

“While Wright’s film is based on King’s novel released under his pseudonym Richard Bachman, the story will differ from the reiteration Schwarzenegger starred in nearly 40 years ago. The story is set in a totalitarian society that utilizes deadly game shows for punishment. In Wright’s version, Powell’s character, Ben Richards, joins a television show where contestants must outrun killers in order to earn money for his sick daughter.”

I believe it is based on the book this time. I recently read the novel and it’s fun and fast paced so hopefully the movie lives up to it.

I’m 50/50 on this. The film is a clear stain on Arnold’s record, but it was just wacky enough to be entertaining back then. I’m not sure a remake will do much better these days. Especially without the star power of someone like Arnold.

I think I’m leaning towards this becoming an instant flop if for no other reason than modern day Hollywood is just terrible at making action films from any perspective.
